The\u00a0PASIFIC Fellowship\u00a0<\/strong>Programme<\/strong>\u00a0is a unique opportunity for researchers who want to undertake state-of-the-art research in a dynamic scientific environment. It will enable scholars of all nationalities and across all scientific disciplines to establish their\u00a0scientific independence<\/strong>\u00a0and conduct\u00a0ground-breaking research<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

For\u00a02<\/strong>\u00a0years<\/strong>, the\u00a0fellows will be hosted at\u00a0one of the institutes\u00a0within\u00a0the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAS), which is one of the most prestigious research institutions in Poland. They will have the\u00a0freedom to choose<\/strong>\u00a0their research area, research supervisor,\u00a0host\u00a0institute\u00a0as well as\u00a0secondment\u00a0organisations\u00a0best suited for their research and career development.<\/p>\n

We are pleased to announce that the Institute of Agrophysics is also among the units of the Polish Academy of Sciences that have the honor of hosting fellows, as a first the PASIFIC <\/strong>fellow became dr Vamseekrishna Ulaganathan (Vamsee) <\/strong>in the Department of Microstructure and Mechanics of Biomaterials<\/span>, under the supervision of prof. Artur Zdunek.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dr. Vamsee<\/u>krishna Ulaganathan will start his PASIFIC fellowship at the Institute of Agrophysics PAS under the supervision of prof. Artur Zdunek. After obtaining his master\u2019s degree in food technology at Lund University, in Sweden, Vamsee pursued his Ph.D. at the Max Planck Institute for Colloids and Interfaces in Potsdam, Germany. His Ph.D. thesis was on foam fractionation of dairy proteins where he characterised the physicochemical factors that affect selective protein adsorption on bubble surfaces while contributing to foam stability. Following that he worked at the University of South Australia, Adelaide as a research associate, on topics related to foams and emulsions, specifically in the context of milk proteins and biosurfactants, with special focus on thin liquid films. He moved back to Germany in 2020 to work on scaling up and process optimization of biopolymer foam production, which can be used as surgical implants for tissue regeneration, at Helmholtz Zentrum, Teltow, Germany. While in 2021 he was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Luxembourg working on complex fluid flows in microfluidic environment.<\/p>\n

His PASIFIC fellowship project titled \u201cPHYTO-tissue inspired FOAMs: for future foods and advanced materials <\/em>(PHYTOFOAM)\u201d <\/em><\/strong>will focus on producing foams with functional properties from plant cell-wall components, valorising agricultural wastes.<\/p>\n
