Since tissue is a composition of cells of different shapes and sizes characterized by certain turgor pressures and a network of intercellular spaces, the stress distribution in cell walls and middle lamella is also very complicated. Therefore, for experimental study, a combination of mechanical testing with imaging of tissue microstructure provides a useful overview of the deformation process. This integration allows for the verification of computational models of tissue deformation.
