The European Polysaccharide Network of Excellence (EPNOE) is a non-profit Association promoting research, education, and knowledge-transfer between academia, industry, and civil society, in all fields related to polysaccharides science and technology.

Group of prof. Artur Zdunek (Department of Microstructure and Mechanics of Biomaterials-MMB) representing the Institute of Agrophysics has joined to the EPNOE network. The main MMB research area is multiscale structure and mechanics of plants with a focus on plant cell wall polysaccharides and arabinogalactan proteins (AGP), their assembly and function in cell walls, and properties in solution. The aim is to ensure high quality fruit and vegetables, valorisation of waste/by products, and obtaining new bio-based products for both food and non-food applications. They study the structure and functionality of cell wall polysaccharides like pectins, hemicellulose and cellulose from fruit and vegetables, other plants, waste or microorganisms.
